The DeTwah trio released this unique half animated half filmed music video for my favorite track off the recently released Random Axe debut album. Can we all go ahead and agree that Black Milk is the rawest producer and Guilty Simpson is the most underrated rhyme sayer out there right now?
Dela is back with his sophomore album, Translation Lost featuring appearances by rapper Blu and more. What started as a simple beat tape turned out to be an LP with beautiful beats that echo in your ears for weeks, complemented by the voices and talents of various artists. Don't let this masterpiece get Lost in Translation.
" t's tricky coming up with a sophomore album. One could say it's about taking the essence of your past work and bringing it to another level, without doing the same thing twice. With that in mind, Paris/Montreal based producer Dela teams up with Drink Water Music to deliver Translation Lost, the follow up to 2009's Changes Of Atmosphere. "
" It started as a simple beat tape. Freshly installed in Montreal, where he was planning to put music on the side for a little while, it only took a couple weeks before Dela felt the need to put together a small setup (a MPC 1000, a turntable and computer speakers) and went back to creating. Beats quickly accumulated. Most were used for side projects that have yet to be released. Some had a special feel : Dela decided to put them together to create what would become Translation Lost. " - Dela
This album is just waaay too fresh! You NEED to grab this brilliance right now.
"This is the debut album of original music from one of the original turntablists, the longtime DJ for Madlib and the late J Dilla, and our pick for world’s greatest hip-hop DJ.
"But this is not a “DJ album”. Not a “beat album”. Not a mix tape. This is an original work of instrumental hip-hop ... electronic music ... dance music ... smoke tracks ... assorted cold rock stuff. " -Stones Throw Records
" You already know. Anybody who has checked out my 2009 release 'After Midnight' should already understand the vibe i was going for. If you havent heard After Midnight, then allow me to elaborate. Midnight soul shit. Certain sounds resonate more after dark, than before dark. something about the night skies, the moon, the crickets. jazzy, smooth, vibin type music. As i always say, perfect is boring. Tracks are a bit lo fi and sloppy. but so is life. Take your jacket off, stay for a while. Grab your Rye and Coke. I tried to create an atmosphere that will set the mood right. Studying. Drinking. Smoking. Romance. Just do me a favor and play it at night. Shoutouts to Marv Won, Mr Brady, O-Phrap, Es, Solar-C, and Phillipe Edison for helping me realize the vision. Highest praises to the whole HW&W team. Ok. Less reading, more vibing. Enjoy. " - Elaquent
I came across this underground polish beatmaker, Galus, a while back and was really feelin the vibes off his Soundcloud page. I got in touch with him and he ended up mailing me this beat tape; 'Retro Lyrics'. The album features 24 smooth and soulful tracks guaranteed to make your head nod!
"This album is made as a 'beat tape', 24 short instrumental pieces made of samples from old vinyl records. Mixture of big beat, jazz, psychodelic rock and electronic music."
Equipement used: TECHNICS 1200 EMU SP 12 MPC 2000 xl ROLAND vs 840 Teac - 80-8 (reel to reel tape recorder) - Galus
I was real excited when I heard about this one! I had the chance to catch Master Blazter perform this past summer in what was undoubtedly one of the greatest group performances I have ever witnessed! Check out the highlights from the show HERE. Could this be a prelude to a possible Master Blazter album?
"Number 7 in the series showcasing the sound of two thirds of the MasterBlaster group – Dam Funk & ComputerJay. The ubiquitious Dam Funk needs little introduction. He’s definitely played at a town near you on multiple occasions in the last few years and still has time for his weekly throwdown – Funkmosphere- in Culver City keeping his hood pass most definitely intact. He gives us two tracks here – the first a delicious groover ‘Night Stroll’ and the second a more frenetic workout – ‘3012 Luv Affair’. Flipping over Computer Jay kicks off in an almost ESG-esque vein with ‘Phantom’ following with two further tracks of heavy drums and an array of analog sounds. In keeping with much of the series Jay’s side blends as one packing in a whole heap to his ten minutes. As ever it’s held together by B+ photo jacket." - All City Records
What a great day for music! I spent all day listening to some of the most anticipated releases of the year so I'm just gonna go in the order I listened to them in.
First up is Black Milk's "Album Of The Year which is finally up and streaming online and available for purchase physically and digitally below:
I don't want to get into whether I think the album lived up to the name or not (as not to attract the haters). But I will say that it's a great album, every track has a neck braking beat along with raw untouchable lyrics which results in a "Deadly Melody"!
Definitely worth going out and grabbing this album!
