It seems in todays musical media influenced world we often forget to recognize truly beautiful music of other cultures and languages. Good music transcends genre, country, culture and language. Therefore RVS would like to introduce our newest weekly column; Worldwide Wednesday. Once a week we will be acknowledging various artists, songs, albums and more from around the world to enlighten and broaden your horizon.This weeks Worldwide Wednesday spotlights the Ethiopian singer and song writer, Ejigayehu Shibabaw also known as Gigi, who found her humble beginnings from contemporary church music and went on to compose in a wide variety of genres. I first came across Gigi's artistry on Velvet Lounge Compilation 2 with a house influenced version of her song Gud Fella. Contrary to popular belief, Gud Fella is not a misspelling of Good Fella but actually means the start of trouble in Ethiopian. Its infectious lyrics and body movin' beat will have you singing and dancing along the whole time! I've memorized most of the lyrics and I don't even speak a word of Ethiopian!
