Rest In Peace Heavy D

We're sad to inform you that the legendary Heavy D, one of the most influential hip hop artists of the 90's passed away earlier today at the age of 44. To remember and pay tribute here is my personal favorite track by Heavy D & The Boyz, Now That We Found Love, featuring Aaron Hall. The Big Daddy's track, Blue Funk, is also one of my all time favorites as it defines everything I love about 90's hip hop. Nobody can do it quite like Heavy D. Nuttin' But Love for The Overweight Lovers In The House.

Damn...too many fallen soldiers this year. Rest in peace Heavy D.

Rest In Paradise: Sylvia Robinson - Sweet Stuff [Video]

Another sad day in the music world today as we mourn the loss of the mother of Hip Hop, Sylvia Robinson. Sylvia played a large role originating the genre, working with Sugar Hill Records as one of the first female producers, followed by a successful solo career. She helped produce classics like the Sugar Hill Gang's Rappers Delight as well as Grandmaster Flash's The Message! Check out this rare performance of Ms. Robinson's hit track Sweet Stuff. Most of you wil recognize this track from the sample used in J Dilla's Crushin'.

DJ Mehdi - Loukoums (J Dilla Tribute Mix) [DWNLD]

The range and variety of different artists, regardless of genre and time period, that the late great J Dilla was able to inspire is still unbelievable to me. In 2006 DJ Mehdi paid homage to Jay Dee through this mix entitled Loukoums which was captivated by Dilla's Donuts. The mix was a limited release amongst friends. Earlier today, in light of Mehdi's tragic passing, Busy P decided it was time to share it with the world.

As a tribute to what would have been the beautiful Aaliyah's 32nd (Age Ain't Nothing but a Number) birthday this Sunday, this weeks TBTM joint is what was Aaliyah's first music video filmed at just 15 for the classic track Back & Forth.

As hard as it was to choose, this is definitely my favorite Aaliyah track of all time.
