Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) - Ni**as In Poorest [Music Video]

The artist formerly known as Mos Def, now known as Yasiin Bey, drops the vivid visuals for his social commentary, "Ni**as In Poorest". Mos, as always, comes through with the socially conscious lyrics in order to remind listeners about the real issues. For those of you trying to make something out of nothing, this is not a diss track towards Kanye and Jay-Z. This is just the first remake of Bey's "Top 40 Underdogs" project. Keep an eye out for the next one coming soon! Mean while watch the video below!

In a recent live show at the The Drake Underground, Toronto based jazz trio, Badbadnotgood caused a ruckus with two previously unheard live covers. TBTM: Nina Simone - Feeling Good (1965) [Video]

This weeks Turn Back Time Monday features the late great Nina Simone's beautiful 1965 single, Feeling Good off her legendary album I Put A Spell On You. Most of you who have been busy Watch(ing) the Throne, probably recognize this from the Kanye sampled track, New Day. I'm surprised they didn't put "featuring Nina Simone" in the track name like they did with Otis. Since when did a sample become a feature?

It's a new dawn, its a new day, Its a new life for me

Big Sean - Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay ft. Kanye West & Roscoe Dash (Prod. No I.D.) [Music Video]

Even though this cut is like a colourful rip off of Kanye's Gold Digger video, this track is still my favorite off Big Seans Finally Famous.

This was all inspired by a little Marvin Gaye and some chardonnay.

Jay-Z & Kanye West - Otis [Music Video]

Maybachs on bachs on bachs on bachs on bachs!

They destroyed a maybach for this video....swag.
Shout out to my man Aziz Ansari with the cameo!

Common - Ghetto Dreams ft. Nas (Prod. No I.D.) [Music Video]

I'm sure most of you already heard this track, but heres the music video for Ghetto Dreams off Common Sense's upcoming album The Dreamer, The Believer featuring Nasty Nas.

I'd take Common & Nas over Jay & Ye any day.

Common Sense & Nasty Nas Keepin' It Ghet-to With The Plastic Cups.

Frank Ocean - Thinking About You [DWNLD]

While we all wait incessantly to hear what Frank Ocean has curated with Jay-Z and Kanye West on the upcoming highly anticipated Watch The Throne album, Ocean drops this eclectic new single entitled Thinking About You.

(Frank Ocean & Jay-Z In The Studio)

The way he changes his pitch and tone in this track....Ouff!

Common - Follow Me (Unreleased) [DWNLD]

Some old, unreleased Common is always welcome at RVS!

"This new, previously unreleased track from Common was originally thought to be a leftover from the Like Water for Chocolate era, or around 1998-2000. But after several listens, it became clear that the reggae-tinged "Follow Me," which references former President George W. Bush and weapons of massive destruction, was likely recorded during the Be sessions, or 2003-05. Either way, new Common is still one hell of a treat, even with the unfinished feel of the track. Still, I could definitely hear this fitting in on Be, particularly because of the jazzy, horns-laden production." - Prefix Mag

Kanye West; The Producer [DWNLD]

Came across a couple of videos of Kanye in the studio making some good ass beats just to get everyone prepared for his upcoming album, Good Ass Job, which is supposed to be on the same level as college drop out! Hopefully this will mean the return of the old Kanye?

Funny video of Kanye on 60 minutes

Kanye in rare form in the studio!

Asher Roth – Seared Foie Gras (Mixtape) [DWNLD]

I'm not normally into these types of Mixtapes but I had to post this one. Asher Roth alongside guest appearances by Blu, Talib Kweli and Pac Div, rhyme over a number of my favorite producers including Madlib, the late great J Dilla, 9th Wonder, RZA, Kanye West, Pharrell, Jake One, WillIAM, Just Blaze and more! Give it a spin and let me know if you think he does these extraordinary producers justice.

I was excited to hear this just by looking at the track listing!
